My desktop

I never cared much for wallpapers. I’ve heard people saying once that high resolution wallpapers hog system resources. Admittedly, that was years ago, back when our IBM Aptiva 8mb of RAM still seemed state-of-the-art. But somehow I kept living by that rule through all the years. At home, even our machine with 1gig of RAM still uses a simple and small (tiled) bitmap as its wallpaper. Don’t waste memory on trivialities, right? :-)

But now, with my new Asus, it’s the first time I feel like I’ve got performance to spare. So behold, my first ever high resolution wallpaper!

 Thanks Vlad!

Beautiful is it not? If you’re like me and like this sort of style, be sure to visit www.vladstudio.com. That guy is impressively talented. Really amazing!

Asus F3ja

This thing is fast!

It’s the Asus F3ja, with a Core 2 duo T7200. My desktop at home is decently fast already, but this notebook has it beat by quite a margin. I’m guessing it’s about 2 times as fast as what I used to work on.. so this means blogging will go 2x as fast as well! Let’s see.. 0 posts in the last two weeks … times 2 … equals … a bad example. But seriously, its multi-tasking capabilities are amazing. Watching DVD’s or tv, listening to mp3’s, surfing, chatting, using my webcam at the same time PLUS moving my mouse hectically back and forth didn’t cause any problems!

So, I’m definitely really happy with my purchase. And that’s not even counting that excellent pair of speakers (Logitech Z4) that I bought with it. The downside is that I think it’s getting a bit too comfy in here. I’m waay too relaxed and I haven’t gotten to studying as much as I am supposed to. I’m way behind schedule, so the following weeks are bound to get heavy. Here’s hoping that I’ll catch up fast..

So much to tell, but so little time to actually do it. Vacation really rocked indeed. It was great seeing everyone again after 7(!) years. I feel sad seeing how I missed some of my cousins grow up. They turned out to be great people. Hopefully it won’t take another 7 years to plan my next trip to Indonesia. One of my cousins is getting married next year, I’ll try to be there as well.

There really is a lot I want to tell about my time in Indonesia (and Hong Kong), but like I said, I’m short on time, so it’ll have to wait. I’m typing this from a public computer, since I haven’t bought my computer yet. When I have, expect me to return posting on a regular basis again.

For now, know that I’m really glad I moved out. It’s great to be able to stand on my own feet (sort of) and I guess it was long overdue. The people in my dorm are all really nice too, 3 (pretty cute) girls and 3 boys. Last night I cooked my very first meal, it was disgusting.
